The contents page of this particular magazine has typical conventions of a contents page such as the headings and page numbers. Images relating to the text and page numbers. The word contents is replaced with MOJO, however the familiar layout allows the audience to know this is a contents page. The title of the page, Mojo is big, bold and dark which stands out to the audience.

The bold numbers stand out to the audience and give a clear insight into the location of the content.
The subtitle has descriptions underneath in italics telling the reader information on the contents. However, the description gives just enough information to keep the reader interested and wanting them to read more.



The images on the left of the page indicate the magazine has focused on multiple stories instead of one main story. This informs the reader of multiple content within the magazine, as the bigger main story would be located on the front cover whereas here more stories are pictured to pull the audience to reading more of the content within the magazine. The images are also arranged in a collage layout, making the reader relate to the magazine more due to the layed back feel it is connoting as it gives off a vibe that they have just placed the images wherever and not given too much thought into it, giving the impression of being effortlessly cool. The images have been placed in positions all over the contents. A collage layout gives a chilled out feeling where not much effort has been placed into the positioning of the image. The audience can relate to the images as they also will most likely be of a layed back nature giving a cool kind of vibe.

The text and page numbers relating to the title are located towards the head of the images. This effect makes the text stand out to the audience along with the bold red background positioned behind the text towards the top of the image. Some of these images, however, do not link with the text to the left, some have been put there instead of text. This not only gives the page a good ratio between text and image but also leaves the reader intrigued as only an image and title is being revealed and no explanation as to what the feature will contain is included. This leaves the reader in suspense as to what the article is about, making them want to read on and discover more.


The comic pictures located around the contents add a sense of humour to the contents. This gives of an informal vibe where the chilled out nature of the audience can relate to the magazine.
The music genre of the magazine is hip-hop. The general target audience for this genre of magazine is a young audience between the    ages of 14-25. Hip-hop is generally listened to by a younger audience and from the magazine front cover the main picture is of a artist known very well by this age group(50 cent). The language used on the page is standard language and informal which is typical of a magazine aimed at this age group.
   The main image is of a hip-hop artist who is an icon amongst the young audience and who many see as one of the biggest artists of the age. He is dressed in typical clothing worn by a hip-hop artist, a black durag with a black vest and tattoos clearly visible which are familiar to the audience of the magazine. The image covers most of the page showing the mainly the artists; face, shoulders, arms, chest and stomach. This focus' on the artists upper body which is of a muscular nature and combined with the vest gives a typical body image of a hip-hop artist familiar with the audience. The lower body is left out meaning the image focuses on the artists upper body image, which in this case is his bare body and tattoos rather than clothing worn by the artist. The image shows the artist with a piercing in his left ear and wearing chains. This is referred to as 'bling' within the hip-hop world and is familiar to the audience as these artists usually wear jewellery or 'bling' of an expensive nature which is clearly displayed. The audience can relate to this as it is typical of the hip-hop/rap culture.

The colour red has been chosen and displayed as the background of the magazine. This is because the two primary colour red and blue are cultural colour within the hip-hip world and the audience can relate this to certain groups within this genre of music. The red colour gives a intense and passionate affect of the genre towards the audience. It represents blood or bloodshed which is typical of this music genre as it can be seen to others as a genre with a violent nature. 
The image clearly shows an artist who is familiar to the audience of the genre. The props, clothes and general image are all worn by the target audience which means the audience can relate to the image.

The magazine is called Hip-hop which is the name of the genre of the music magazine. This directly connects to the audience. This will give show that the magazine is purely dedicated to this genre of music and the content within the magazine is related to the target audience.
The typeface is white and bold, this stands out to the audience against the white background. The copy was placed in music stores and could be ordered online. It was a general A4 size which is ideal for the audience as they would spend a lot of their time online and was easy and efficient for them to receive copies.

2nd magazine front cover analysis

The music genre of the magazine is rap. It is targeted at a young/middle aged, both male and female, audience. Rap is predominantly listened to by males. However, the image show a very famous young female rap artist(Nicki Minaj) who is seen as an idol to female rap audiences. Text located around the magazine also shows that this magazine is aimed at females as well as males, ' the struggle of female MCs'.The main image shows two very famous rap artists which are familiar to the young/middle aged audience as they are relatively new to this genre. The general rap genre usually takes interest to the younger audience, however the text located around the magazine('Hip-hop on a higher level') and the masthead 'XXL' may also give the audience the idea that the content within the magazine maybe suitable for a audience between the ages of 18-25.
  
The image is the only image located on the page and takes up most of the space on the front cover. This shows the audience the main story located within the magazine is of the two artists displayed. The image is displayed on a black background which is typical of the rap music genre and gives a dark urban like mood which is familiar with the target audience. The two artists are standing close to each other which indicates to the audience that they are both closely linked and have had a close connection in the rap music genre. The artist on the left(Nicki Minaj) is dressed in a black and leopard outfit which is typical of a female rap artist and is familiar to the audience as they have become used to this outlandish clothing from the female artists of this genre. The artist on the right(Drake) is shown wearing something around his neck known as a dog tags. These are familiar to an audience of this genre. Along with Nicki Minaj's gold like prop she is holding towards her chest, these accessories are a almost like a cultural symbol known to the urban world as 'bling' which is familiar amongst the young audience.

The Magazine is called XXL which is an abreveation for extra, extra large. However, it is not directly linked to the content or the target audience. The typeface however  is big and bold. the artists name as written in white with the word domination written underneath in red. This tells the audience that these two artists are a big topic within the rap genre. The word domination suggests to the audience their popularity and movements with this genre are currently the main topic within the magazine. Further evidence is under neath. 'The rebirth of rap royalty'. This text suggests to the audience that the artists within the image are a key issue of their genre. The copy is placed in music stores at A4 size as the barcode located on the front suggests. This is essential as it is easy for the young audience to obtain and read.

1st magazine analysis

The music genre is urban. This magazines target audience is a young, urban audience as its predominant feature are R&B and Hip-hop artists, actors and other entertainers. The main image shows two very famous urban artists (Eminem and Dr. Dre)who's image and audio are known worldwide.
  The main image shows the pair wearing and holding medical equipment with music symbols, a microphone and earphones coming from the tweezers held by one of the artists . This relates to the urban audience because the artist Dr.Dre  is presented on the front cover with medical clothing and equipment which is an direct relation on the Dr(Dr of urban music) part of his name. The artist Eminem also has headphones, with a microphone and paper with written lyrics. These key features in the main image all give an insight to the audience that the artist is apart of the urban rap genre as this kind of equipment is stereotyped to this particular genre.

The text connected to the image is a question. 'What are Eminem and Dre cookin' up? This type of question draws the attention to what these two very famous urban artists are doing next in their successful careers. The words 'cookin' up' is an informal phrase used within the urban world which indicates the artists are up to something 'big' and are spending their time making or being involved in music aimed at their target audience and in this case the readers of the magazine. As mentioned before the clothes and props are stereotypical examples of an urban music industry. These props are connected to the target audience as the headphones are worn by urban artists while recording music and is a classic culture of this type of genre. These props are also connected with the text attached to the image. The headphones and microphone are attached with the phrase 'cookin' up' which suggest to the reader that the two artists are making music targeted at the audience of the magazine. The image is the only image on the page and is presented as the background of the magazine which gives the target audience the idea that this is the main news within the magazine and the most discussable topic within the urban genre during this issue.

The image has natural colours. This is the colour of the medical clothing are bright and are against a dark grey green/black background which also gives some insight to the audience that something bright from these artists is coming. The dark colours are typical of a urban rap genre and are used with the bright yellow text of the two artists names to emphasis to the audience the happenings and people involved within the magazine.

The title of the magazine is 'VIBE'. This can be seen as informal with the urban world. It can be used in many contexts such as Urban vibe, Music vibe and personal vibe. This informal word is a direct to the target audience of the magazine, which is young. The word vibe is also used with the urban music world, where most people are familiar word this type of 'street language' which is common amongst the young target audience of the magazine. The typeface used is big bold and bright which is common text used within the urban world. It emphasises the text, which is against a dark background, to the audience. The text is uniform making it clear to read to the younger target audience.

The magazine copies are sold in retailed shops and supermarkets amongst the magazine section of the market. The content can also be accessed online which is useful as the majority of the young target audience would use the internet. The audience could also suscribe to copies online. The magazine is of A4 reading and is the best and most common size that a younger audience has become used to. The online feature of the magazine also works well as the younger reader can adjust the size of the content to their need.

Improooovements and final magazine front cover


  The title is named Lordswood Girls as this is aimed at the audience and is the name of the location where the magazine is targeted. The significant words in the title are 'Lordswood' and 'Sixth Form' as this is the location and groups of people where the magazine will be aimed. The reader interacts by looking at the front cover and seeing familiar images of the school and improvements within an environment where they spend most their days at.
    The front cover contains images of the media and a student working in a media suite. The image shows a student concentrating which is the focus of the magazine. The title word 'School' is represented by her body language as she is working, however she is not dressed in uniform which does not entirely represent the school but more the sixth form. Another image of a student wearing uniform could be used. Text telling the audience some of the content within in the magazine is located on the cover along with website of the school. They give the audience an insight into what they might find within the magazine and the website will give be a source of further information for the audience.
