The music genre of the magazine is hip-hop. The general target audience for this genre of magazine is a young audience between the ages of 14-25. Hip-hop is generally listened to by a younger audience and from the magazine front cover the main picture is of a artist known very well by this age group(50 cent). The language used on the page is standard language and informal which is typical of a magazine aimed at this age group.
The main image is of a hip-hop artist who is an icon amongst the young audience and who many see as one of the biggest artists of the age. He is dressed in typical clothing worn by a hip-hop artist, a black durag with a black vest and tattoos clearly visible which are familiar to the audience of the magazine. The image covers most of the page showing the mainly the artists; face, shoulders, arms, chest and stomach. This focus' on the artists upper body which is of a muscular nature and combined with the vest gives a typical body image of a hip-hop artist familiar with the audience. The lower body is left out meaning the image focuses on the artists upper body image, which in this case is his bare body and tattoos rather than clothing worn by the artist. The image shows the artist with a piercing in his left ear and wearing chains. This is referred to as 'bling' within the hip-hop world and is familiar to the audience as these artists usually wear jewellery or 'bling' of an expensive nature which is clearly displayed. The audience can relate to this as it is typical of the hip-hop/rap culture.
The colour red has been chosen and displayed as the background of the magazine. This is because the two primary colour red and blue are cultural colour within the hip-hip world and the audience can relate this to certain groups within this genre of music. The red colour gives a intense and passionate affect of the genre towards the audience. It represents blood or bloodshed which is typical of this music genre as it can be seen to others as a genre with a violent nature.
The image clearly shows an artist who is familiar to the audience of the genre. The props, clothes and general image are all worn by the target audience which means the audience can relate to the image.
The magazine is called Hip-hop which is the name of the genre of the music magazine. This directly connects to the audience. This will give show that the magazine is purely dedicated to this genre of music and the content within the magazine is related to the target audience.
The typeface is white and bold, this stands out to the audience against the white background. The copy was placed in music stores and could be ordered online. It was a general A4 size which is ideal for the audience as they would spend a lot of their time online and was easy and efficient for them to receive copies.
